Tips to boost your laptop’s battery

Your laptop shows five hours of battery left, but three hours later the battery levels are almost down. Why does the battery drain faster than estimated? How can you prolong your laptop’s battery life? Find some answers in this article.

Battery basics

Battery level

The battery level displayed on the taskbar of your laptop is the estimated remaining battery based on the real time power consumption calculated by the system.
If a power-intensive software, such as a PC game, is initiated, the battery will not last as long as previously estimated.

Battery performance

Your laptop’s battery life is closely related to factors such as ambient temperature and device’s settings. Besides that, rechargeable batteries are consumables, and so they will show a decline in performance with the passage of time.

Protect your battery to prolong its lifespan

The way you charge your laptop will also have an effect on its battery life. For example, charging the battery over 45℃ for a long time, or keeping it fully charged would both be harmful for your battery. We recommend that you unplug your laptop timely and that you shut it down after using it.

With PC Manager, you can select different battery modes according to your needs. Open PC Manager on your HUAWEI laptop, find and select Settings on the top-right corner and click Settings > Others/Power and enable Battery Protection; then select a battery mode. Find below a brief description of each of the available battery modes:

Family Mode

Select this mode if the computer will be charged for a long time. In this mode, the battery could be charged to 70% at most.

Office Mode

Select this mode if you want to plug in or unplug the charger at any time. In this mode, the battery could be charged to 90% at most.

Travel Mode

Select this mode if the power adapter is unavailable for a long time. In this mode, the battery could be charged to 100%.

Replacing your laptop’s battery

If your battery is not working as it should, it may need replacing. You can replace your battery by booking a repair via the Support App, HUAWEI Official website or by contacting HUAWEI Customer Services.
