Why does your phone’s battery drain faster than usual?

Have you noticed your phone’s battery draining faster than usual? Find in this article the most common reasons and some useful tips.

The battery drains faster when at lower percentage

You phone will keep some power percentage to protect the battery

An excessive release of power may damage the battery, so the phone will smartly shut down before the battery is completely drained. This may give you the impression that the battery drains fast.

Your phone will check the battery level more frequently

When the battery level is low, the system will obtain the remaining battery level more frequently in order to show it accurately, and will display a message reminding you to save important data before the device powers off automatically.

Power consumption increases after a system update

Your phone undergoes a series of optimisation procedures in the background after a system update has been completed, which increases the battery drain speed. For example, some apps will need to be readapted: Gallery will be smartly reorganised, and files will be scanned again to detect security risks.

These procedures will be completed within five hours if the phone is fully charged and idle, or within three days under normal usage. This optimisation process may take longer if the phone is used frequently during this period. Once the optimisation is completed, the standby time will return to normal.

Tips to avoid fast battery drainage

Before going to bed, manually clear apps running in the background, so that the phone will quickly enter the Sleep mode to reduce power consumption.

When the battery level is low, go to Settings > Battery and enable Power Saving mode or Ultra Power Saving mode to extend the standby time.

Avoid intensive use of your phone during the optimisation process.

*Reminder: Some models do not support the Ultra Power Saving mode.

If you still feel that your phone’s battery drains faster than it should, please contact HUAWEI Customer Services for further assistance. Alternatively, please back up your data, and take your device and proof-of-purchase to an Authorised Service Centre for diagnosis.

*Reminder: The instructions above are followed with EMUI 10.1, and it may be slightly different in other versions.
