There may be a few reasons why your phone is not charging, even when properly plugged and the charging icon is on. Find out more in this article!

The phone fails to charge using a charger and a cable

There are three reasons why your phone may not be charging when using a charger and cable:

Unofficial chargers and data cables

Using unofficial charges and cables may result in slow or unsuccessful charging of your device – we always recommend using HUAWEI official charges and data cables for a good charging experience.

Using your phone while charging

This will lead to a slower charging speed. Close power-intensive apps running in the background and recharge your phone again.

The ambient temperature is too low

This will result in slow charging, or even charging failure. Please charge your phone in a room temperature environment.

If you have followed the advices above but your phone is still not charging, please back up your data and take your device and proof-of-purchase or E-Warranty Card to a nearby Authorised Service Centre. Alternatively, please contact HUAWEI Customer Services for further assistance.

The phone fails to charge using a computer USB port

Try charging your phone using an original charger first – this will rule out the issue is coming from your phone.

If your phone is charging normally, it may be possible the USB port on your computer is failing.

If there is no charging icon displaying on your phone, check whether the data cable is properly connected or damaged.

For a desktop computer, use the USB port on the back of the computer to charge. For a laptop, use the USB port instead of a USB extension cable, whose power supply may be insufficient.

If the problem persists, please contact your computer’s vendor for further assistance.

Extra charging tips

Ensure a good connection

Check whether the data cable, charger, and socket are well connected. If not, please reinsert the data cable or try a new data cable and charger.

Keep the charging ports clean

Keep the jacks on your computer dust free. Clean them with a brush or wipe them off.

Use official chargers and data cables

For a better experience you are recommended to use original charges and data cables.
