Right before charging, which one do you do first, plug the data cable into the phone, or plug the charger into the wall socket? And which end do you unplug first after charging?
In fact, this small difference is crucial to your phone’s battery health. Now, what is the correct way? Before we can go any further, we should pay special attention to a very important battery element: surge.
Surge refers to the instantaneous over-voltage beyond the normal working voltage, a kind of transient and violent pulse that can be generated in about one millionth of a second.
You may have heard some buzzing noise when you start charging the phone - that is just the surge.
Don't underestimate the surge. It may cause data loss, performance degradation, battery life to shorten, screen flickering, noise, circuit damage and other issues.
Before Charging,
Plug into the Socket First
If you plug the data cable into the phone first, a large impulse may be generated in the moment of connecting to the power supply, and the excessive surge will damage the phone.
On the other hand, if you plug the adapter and cable into the wall socket first, and then connect your phone, though the surge cannot be eliminated -to some extent- the direct contact between the surge and the phone can be avoided.
After charging,
Unplug the Phone First
Once charging is complete, unplug the phone first. When unplugging the charger, it is easy to generate reverse instantaneous current, which may cause your phone’s battery life to shorten.
Leaving your battery fully charged for a long time will damage its life spam. With the Smart Charge mode you can avoid that from happening.
For users who are used to charging their phones overnight, the Smart Charge mode will recognise their charging patterns and come up with a personalised strategy whereby the charging is stopped and resumed at a particular time, preventing the battery from overcharging and making sure it is fully charged before the users get up.
* To enable this feature, go to Settings > Battery > More battery settings, Smart Charge.
*Reminder: This feature does not affect the charging speed when enabled, and is not supported if there is no such option on the phone.
How Smart Charge works depends on your charging habits. As a result, not all phones will trigger this mode. The AI algorithm will intelligently analyse your charging habits and subsequently manage the charging.
