Digital car key

Misplacing your car key or leaving it at home can be extremely annoying. Say good-bye to that and turn your Huawei smartphone into a digital key.

Now you can leave your physical key behind and use your smartphone to lock and unlock your vehicle, start the car's engine or even let your friends or family access your car. After configuring the virtual key, you just have to hold your phone near the car's handle to open it and then put the device into the wireless charging dock to turn on the engine.

The digital car key is stored in a safe location on your smartphone's security chip and cannot be copied without authorisation. It can be used for another 24 hours even if your device runs out of power and shuts down.

Activate virtual key

To use your Huawei phone as a digital key, download your vehicle manufacturer's app on your smartphone (for example, myAudi) and activate the virtual car key. We recommend you to perform this action under the guidance of a customer representative of the manufacturer or of an authorised car dealer.

On your device, activate the NFC from the Settings menu. Go to Settings   →   More connections   →   NFC and tap on the toggle. Here also set the car manufacturer's app as the default app.

To unlock the car with your phone, hold the NFC area (located near the rear camera) close to the door handle of the car. After unlocking the door, place your smartphone into the wireless charging dock and press the start button of the car.

Once the engine has started, you can remove the phone from the charging dock. When leaving the car, you can lock the door by holding the phone close to the door handle.

Share or Delete virtual key

Currently, the digital key is available only for a range of selected Audi models.

Contact your car manufacturer or go to an authorised car dealer to check if your vehicle is compatible with this feature. From the car manufacture's app you can share the digital key with your close friends or family members, or revoke their access.

The sharing and the usage of duplicate keys vary from one model to another; for further details check your car's user guide. If you lose your phone, you can delete the digital key via the manufacturer's app or its official website.
